Why These Monologues Are Different
It's sometimes hard to explain to an actor or actress just how many people are being seen day after day by casting. I've sat through many casting sessions myself and it can be really grueling. Seeing 300 renditions of the same 8 or 10 monologues over and over and over can just be awful.
In fact, I've actually seen directors have monologues they've never even heard before memorized by the end of the day, just because they've seen so many actresses do the same ones over and over again.
I always kind of wondered why it seemed like every actress chose the same material. I mean, surely there has to be other stuff to use, right?
It wasn't until I started this website that I found out the truth...there really aren't that many great monologues for women to use, so these poor actresses just end up using the same stuff.
But, I knew from my own personal acting training that there was a wealth of great material that all of my fellow grads knew about and were using all the time.
