44 Fantastic Audition Monologues For Women

This is huge, as many actors overlook this very vital part of audition technique.  Of course having a strong monologue from Shakespeare can be a great vehicle, but by and large they leave the audience out...as in, they are meant to be performed for performance sake.

That's where these monologues are so different.  The characters in The Spoon River Anthologies have all been dead for a very long time.  And, in life they were wronged terribly.  These are 'messages from the grave' so to speak.  These characters are seeking justice, retribution or forgiveness and they are seeking them from the townspeople, i.e., your audience.

This is great for your audition, because now you are connected to your audience.  You are speaking directly to them.  Because your 'audience' (the casting people) are already there to watch you perform, your direct engagement of them gives you command.  And, who hasn't heard the term a 'commanding performance?'

The casting people may not know it while you're doing the monologue, but your direct engagement and inclusion of them in your world gives you an amazing edge.  They are going to feel what is happening in your performance, and ultimately I say you can never do better than that.
